Q. How can I determine which panel to buy?
A.
The first time you choose an SJE-Rhombus control panel, we suggest
that you call our toll free number and speak with a technician at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (1-888-342-5753). With
just a very few questions, the technician can help direct you to the
right control panel and help you to understand what kind of
information you'll need the next time you want a control panel.
Q. What is a Tank Alert® alarm system designed to do?
A.
A Tank Alert® alarm is a warning system that alerts
you of threatening high or low liquid levels in your sump basin, pump
chamber, holding tank, irrigation system or sewage system holding tank.
Q. Where can I buy SJE-Rhombus products?
A.
Please refer to our Factory Rep Locator. Our Representatives can
direct you to your closest Distributor. Our SJE-Rhombus Distributor can refer
you to a local contractor. You may also call customer service to assist you (toll free 1-888-DIAL-SJE).
Q. What are the advantages of pump up switches verses pump down
switches?
A.
No advantages, just different applications. A pump down switch is
normally open and is usually used to empty a tank. A pump up switch is
normally closed and is usually used to fill a tank.
Q. Does SJE-Rhombus have a switch approved for potable water?
A.
Yes, our SJE PumpMaster® pump switches and
SJE SignalMaster® and SJE MilliAmpMaster™ control switches have been tested by an
approved independent Water Quality Association laboratory. The switches
were tested to meet the requirements for compliance of NSF Standard
61. Please refer to Pump Switches to view more information on
these products.
Q. What determines the pumping range on the Super Single®
pump switch?
A.
The tether length determines what the pumping range will be.
Basically, the longer the tether length, the wider the pumping range (up to the limits of the switch). On the Super Single® pump switch, a
tether length of 3.5 inches will allow for a pumping range of 6.5
inches. A tether length of 15 inches will allow for a pumping range of
13.5 inches. These are the limits of the Super Single® pump switch.
Please refer to the product installation instructions for charts
calculating pumping ranges.
Q. Can I use a Tank Alert® alarm system to control my
pump?
A.
No. A Tank Alert® alarm system can notify you of a
high or low level of liquid in your tank. It is not designed to
control a pump. You must use either a control panel or a pump switch to
do that.
Q. Can different floats be used than the ones supplied
with my control panel?
A.
Yes you can, providing the switches are compatible to the original
switches provided. An example of when this would not work is
where a pump switch (wide angle) is provided with a panel that utilizes
the pump switch range to control the pumping range of a pump. If a
control switch (narrow angle) is used instead, the pump would turn on
and off (short cycle) around the narrow range of the control switch.
This would damage your pump over time. Please call us toll free
at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (342-5753) or at 1-800-RHOMBUS (746-6287) if you have
questions about which float switches to substitute.
Q. Can I use one Tank Alert® alarm to indicate
both high and low levels?
A.
Yes. If you buy a normally open and a normally closed
float, the alarm would sound at either a high or low level condition and
you would have to manually check the condition. The Tank Alert®
alarm was designed to provide either a high level or a low level indication.
If you require an alarm that can differentiate and provide a high level
and low level warning alarm please contact our customer service staff
for a custom alarm quote at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (342-5753).
Q. How can I hook up a pump switch or a pressure switch on a control
panel that was originally designed to utilize Sensor Float®
control switches?
A.
You can do this. Each panel is different and we would refer you to
the schematic provided with your panel. Under the section labeled
"Field Wiring" you will notice little block that describes how
to do this for your particular control panel. We would be happy to
describe this process further. Please call our customer service toll free at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (342-5753) or 1-800-RHOMBUS (746-6287) to assist you.
Q. My pumps don't turn on in the Hand or Auto mode,
what would cause this?
A.
It could be a few different things. If this is a new installation,
the proper power may not have been provided to the control section of
the control panel. Your best option with this type of problem is to call
our customer service toll free at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (342-5753) or 1-800-RHOMBUS (746-6287)
and we can help you determine the problem.
Q. How does a control panel work?
A.
We have many different types of panels and may operate in
different ways. In general, a single phase (one pump) simplex system (Model 112)
panel has three floats. In a typical pump down application,
the lowest float in the system is the stop float. When the water level
raises and floats this switch, the switch closes. Nothing happens at
this time. As the liquid level continues to rise to the next switch, the
start switch, floats and closes the switch. At this time, the pump would
turn on and stay on until both the start and stop floats drop and open
both switches. The highest switch in this system is the alarm switch. If
the water makes it to this level, an alarm will sound notifying you of a
possible problem. This is how one of our basic control panels work. For
additional information on the functions of your control panel, please
call our customer service technicians at 1-888-DIAL-SJE (342-5753) or 1-800-RHOMBUS
(746-6287). |
